Approved Food Share’s Business Plans with Betts

Sheffield South East Labour Parliamentary Candidate Clive Betts visits Approved Food Warehouse

Sheffield business Approved Food received a visit from Sheffield South East’s Labour Parliamentary Candidate this week to talk about their unique business model making waves in the retail world.

Founder of Approved Food Dan Cluderay showed Clive Betts around the South Yorkshire business, taking the opportunity to highlight its work – saving millions of items from landfill and providing consumers with huge savings as a result of its specialised stock of products nearing or just past their best-before-dates.

Dan said, “It was great to talk Clive and showcase how a local Sheffield business can really make a difference in the UK retail arena with a basis of strong local support.

“We wouldn’t be where we are today with the backing of the Yorkshire public, especially as the business began as a simple market stall start-up idea that has now snowballed to run from a 60,000 sq ft warehouse in Sheffield, selling to thousands of customers a day in the UK and Europe.”

With a focus on the local community of Sheffield South East and an ‘ambition to reduce pollution’ Clive Betts was keen to keep on the pulse of this innovative business which still has its roots firmly in Sheffield, providing over 50 jobs in its local area.

Clive Betts said: “It was great to meet a passionate businessman like Dan, he is not only a bold entrepreneur making waves in the retail sector with the unique business plan but also an advocate for greener and more sustainable businesses.

“Most products that Approved Food sell would have been wasted unnecessarily, from items such as Christmas washing up liquid to crisps, it just shows the scale of the food waste problem that needs to be addressed.

“We need more businesses like Approved Food in the area supporting our local community and making a much larger, global contribution to the environment.”

In the Labour manifesto published last month, the party pledged to reduce pollution and create more green jobs. Environmental issues also hit the headlines yesterday when a Supreme Court ruling ordered the next Government to take action to tackle air pollution immediately.

Dan added: “Our aim is to help people living on a budget make the most out of their money and also provide manufacturers and supermarkets with an alternative route to market rather than putting it into landfill.

“We saved over 3.6 million items from going into landfill since we started seven years ago, and that’s just the beginning.”

Approved Food founder Dan recently entered the Virgin Business Pitch to Rich competition which he says will ‘help take the business to the next level and make an even greater impact on the environment across the country’.
