Mustard Pork and Apple Sauce Recipe

Make some hearty British food with this mustard pork and apple recipe using a range of products sold at Approved Food.

Ingredients:

  • 4 large potatoes
  • 100ml of milk and 50g butter
  • Lean pork lion steaks (Approved Food meat Hamper £15)
  • Pepper seasoning
  • Salt (Saxa Table Salt 750g 2 for £1.00 or £0.59 each RRP £0.85)
  • Olive oil (Flora sunflower oil cooking spray 300ml £.099 RRP £2.00)
  • 2 Apples (sliced)
  • 1 Onion (sliced)
  • Chicken stock (Perfectly good chicken stock 20g x 4, 2 for £1.00 or £0.59 each RRP £0.69)
  • Mustard (perfectly good American style mustard 370g £0.10 each RRP £1.25)
  • Green peas (Lockwoods Marrowfat Processed Peas 300g 3 for 99p or £0.39 each RRP £0.55)

Method:

Chop up the potatoes and boil in salted water till soft. Drain and mash with butter and milk. Coat the pork with oil, salt and pepper. Heat a frying pan on a medium heat and when hot add the pork, cook for 2 minutes on each side to seal. Transfer to a plate to rest. Add some oil to the frying and when the oil is hot add the sliced apples and onion and fry on medium heat for 5 minutes or until soft. Make the stock using boiling water and pour into the frying pan and spoon in the mustard. Add the pork back to the pan and cook on low heat for 10 minutes. Boil the peas until soft but tender.

Plate up: Place the pork, mash and peas onto a plate. Pour over the apple and onion gravy. Make sure the food is piping hot before serving. *Leftover pork meat can be frozen on the day but make sure it is fully cooled beforehand *.
