Pork Steak – Mushroom and Onion Sauce

Ingredients:

  • Pork (Approved Food meat hamper £15)
  • Oil (Flora Sunflower Oil Cooking Spray 200ml £0.99 RRP £2.00)
  • 1 Onion (chopped)
  • 10 medium mushrooms (chopped)
  • 200g Crème fraiche
  • 59ml stock (Maggi Stock Pots Chicken 88g 2 for £1.50, £0.89 each, RRP £1.00) (Perfectly Good Chicken Stock 20g x 4 2 for £1.00 or £0.59 each, RRP £0.69)
  • 1 tbsp Mustard (Perfectly Good American Style Mustard 370g £0.10 RRP £1.25) (Prymat Russian Style Mustard 180g 3 for 99p £0.39 each RRP £0.69)
  • Salt and pepper
  • Mcdougalls Instant Mashed Potato 2.25kg (£1.99, RRP £5.99) or Smash original instant mash 176g (2 for £1.00 or £0.59 each RRP £1.09)
  • Crosse Blackwell Sliced Carrots in water 300g (2 for £1.00, £0.59 each, RRP £1.00)

Method:

Rub your pork loin steaks with some salt. Add some oil to frying pan and heat on medium, when hot add the pork steaks and brown on each side for 2 minutes. Leave to cool. Add the onions to the frying pan and cook on medium heat until soft, stirring occasionally. Add mushrooms and cook for 5 more minutes. Once cooked add the stock, mustard, creme fraiche and pepper, stir to combine. Return pork steaks to the pan, bring to a boil and let it simmer for 2 minutes. While the pork steaks cook make the mash potato as described on the packet, boil the carrots in salted water until soft but tender and serve.

Make sure the food is piping hot before serving. *Leftover pork can be frozen but make sure it is fully cooled beforehand *.
