Recycle Your Approved Food Packaging

It is Recycle week! Have you ever wondered what to do with your Approved Food packaging? There are a great variety of ways to recycle them around your house, at work and to entertain your kids. We have created some of our top ways to recycle each component. Check them out below and get creative!

Cardboard Boxes and Bottle Divider

The cardboard boxes can be used as storage boxes both around your home or at work. The bottle dividers can be used to divide drinks to stop them breaking or how about a show holder?

Secure a wonky table..

They can be cut down to make desk tidies or pen pot holders, great for your home office or work.

Leftover small pieces can be turned into a phone stand for different size phones or even an iPad.

Trying to find ways to entertain your kids during the weekends or school holidays? How about making a race track, castle, car or a house?

Entertain your pets for hours. Cardboard boxes make great houses or toys for pets. How about making your kitten a little princess or prince cave or a playpen? Tunnels, mazes or runs can also be made for little pets.

Bubble Wrap and Meat Hamper Packaging*

Wrap around plants during the winter to protect them from the frost.

You can go all out and wrap up your car so you don’t have to spend hours scrapping each morning. Maybe not as extreme as the picture below!!

Bubble wrap is a good insulator due to the air within each bubble. Place on windows to keep the heat in.

How about making some bubble chocolate? Eye stopper and very easy to make. Clean well and dry some bubble wrap. Melt some chocolate and pour on to the bubble wrap. Spread into the shape you want. Leave it to set and peel off. Wrap around cakes or use as a cake topper. To make the different toned effect use different types of chocolate – white and milk.

Time to get arty. Glue a small amount of bubble wrap onto a plastic container and get your kids to make some crazy art, all you need is paint. Another great idea with young kids is to attach bubble wrap to their feet and let them stamp around.

*Make sure to clean the meat hamper packaging very well with hot water and disinfectant soap before using it.*

Loose fill

It can be used for its main purpose of protecting items from getting broken during storage.

If you have a lot of them you can stuff a bag to make a bean bag.

Do you have green fingers? Ever had a huge pot full of soil that was a pain to move around? Then use the loose fill to fill half of a pot followed by the soil and plant. The loose fill will also absorb water and keep the plant moist.

This is a great hack. How many of you have tried to knock a nail into the wall and hit your finger instead? Here is the solution. Use the loose fill to hold the nail in place.

The texture of the loose fill makes great sponges for art work. Why not have ago with your kids.

Air Sac Inflatable Packaging

They can be used to protect items during moving or storage.

The air sacs are great to store bottles on route home from the shop or out on a picnic or even to store them around the house.

They make great phone protectors.

They can even be used to protect fruit to stop them getting brushed maybe after a shop.

We hope that you have had a go at recycling some of the Approved Food packaging using the ideas above or maybe come up with your own ideas. Send in pictures of your creations if you fancy, we would love to see them. We will be creating another post about how to recycle other packaging you may acquire from doing a shop at Approved Food, keep tuned.

Finally

Before we end we would like to tell you more about Approved food and what we stand for. We are a company who is helping to resolve a big issue in our society: Food Waste. In 2017 7.3 tonnes of food was wasted in UK homes. To tackle this food waste issue we at Approved Food are selling products close to or just past the best before date at a reduced price for you. This means you can save up to 70% on your food shop. And at the same time, you are helping the environment. One question people ask is what is the difference between best before and use by date? Use by date is about food safety where food should not be consumed after this date. This date is popular on meat and dairy products. However, the best before date is about food quality and food past the best before date is safe to consume.

If you have any questions regarding food waste, best before dates keep tuned as many more blog posts regarding these topics will be coming shortly. If you would like to support us on the food waste mission tell your friends and family about Approved Food and come and grab a bargain.
