Shoppers Named Sarah Are Savviest According To Poll – David Isn’t Far Behind

People called Sarah are the savviest shoppers around, according to a recent poll carried out by leading online grocer Approved Food which specialises in stock that is nearing or past its best before date.

Emma and Lisa came in second and third respectively joined by David at number four, the most likely man to seek out a bargain. Surprisingly so, as the grocer only has 25% registered male shoppers amongst its 250k registered customers.

Founder and Director of Approved Food Dan Cluderay said: “Perhaps unsurprisingly the three most popular names are female, with women typically still taking the lead on the weekly shop, but we are seeing an increasing number of men join the Approved Food family.

“The most sensible male shopper appears to be David, followed by Paul and John in the top 15. We’ve had a 15% increase on male shoppers joining the bargain ranks in the last year – maybe down to our newly launched alcohol division!”

According to Approved Food the name Sarah, which is the old Hebrew word for Princess, accounts for more than 5600 of its customers, a staggering 2.24% of Approved Food’s customer base. The popular name was in the top five baby names from 1980 – 2000.

Approved Food’s Dan said: “Since the company was established in 2008 our main customers have been women – mostly mums – but we’re seeing more men logging on to find a bargain, on average placing 625 orders a week.”

The most popular surname came as no surprise however with Smith topping the bill – shortly followed by Jones and Williams.
