The Great Sport Relief Bake Off by Slightly Skint Blog

The Great Sport Relief Bake Off might be over for another year but Sport Relief itself isn’t until 18th March and I’m sure many of you have been asked to contribute in some way. I love getting involved in charity especially if I can do something creative and cost effective. I’ve been testing my baking skills and have created some exceptionally frugal and fun cakes which you could bake for any kind of fund raising event and they take less time than a bake off episode!

You’ll need:

125g self raising flour

100g sugar

100g margarine

2 eggs

Decorating supplies: glitter sugar, icing, sugar pearls.

Baking ingreds

  1. Pre heat the oven to 190c and line a muffin tin with paper/silicone cases.

Butter and sugar

  1. Mix the sugar and margarine together so it’s a creamy texture.

  1. Sift in the flour and mix.

  1. Add the eggs and mix.

  1. Put a dessert spoon of mix in each case and put in the oven.

Mixture in cases

I went a bit wild with my decorations and tried out rose icing using the Whilton icing and decorated using Dr Oetker sugar and Whilton chocolate and sprinkles available from the Approved Food site.

Undecorated these cakes fare well in the freezer, check out the Approved Food guide ( to see what else you can freeze and keep your food #PerfectlyGood.

As you can tell, my decorating skills aren’t nearly as good as Mary’s but I did give it good try, I’m due to get married next year and have been toying with the idea of making the wedding cake myself which I’m starting to think is not a good idea if I want it to look presentable! Mike thought they were delicious anyway!
