At around 6am tomorrow morning, Good Friday, Alan Boothroyd’s heart will be pounding.

Moments later as the 52-year-old leaves the Lands End start line his feet will begin to take the strain as he embarks on a remarkable 20 day challenge in aid of the Keep It Up Campaign, Huddersfield Town AFC’s charity to raise money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Alan is joined by family friend Callum Parkinson who as a 13-year-old was knocked down in a traffic accident and rescued by the Yorkshire Air Ambulance

The Huddersfield man is a real life Forest Gump. When he starts running he doesn’t know when to stop. The training has been done, the route plotted and it is now time for everyone to get right behind this crazy individual who is putting his body on the line for a great cause.

Those of you that have been delaying that morning jog because of the weather must recognise that taking on the equivalent of two marathons a day for 20 days is a challenge-and-a-half. So, let’s get right behind the man they nickname Booby.

Alan picks up his food and drink from Andy Needham at Approved Food and is assisted by his run organisers

At Approved Food we will chart his progress and encourage all of our customers to get involved through the length of the country.

Other than giving to Alan’s collection there are three ways that you can help and benefit at the same time.

  1. Approved will be selling a special edition bag of sweets which will be in stock early next week. Add those to your shopping basket at £1 and all proceeds will go straight to Alan’s charity pot. If you purchase the sweets you will also automatically be entered into a prize draw to win a Kindle.

£1 a packet and all proceeds will go to Alan’s charity run
  2. We also want you to get out there and cheer him on. The lonely life of the long distance runner can be made less solitary with the occasional cheer as he runs past. Throughout the challenge we will be letting you know where he is so get out on the streets and cheer him, honk your horn and let him know he’s not on his own we are all right behind him!! Take a photo or a short video and send to james@approvedfood.co.uk on that same day and your Approved Food account will be credited with £10. For every photo received Approved Food will add £5 to Alan’s collection.
  3. Approved Food will be having daily special offers on the site where a percentage of that product sold will also go to Booby’s collection.

It’s a long road ahead but let’s share the journey with him, keep him company and ensure he gets past the £50,000 target he has set himself!!
