APPROVED FOOD LABELS BLACK FRIDAY PAST ITS BEST BEFORE DATE:

CONSUMERS MISS OUT DUE TO LIMITED STOCK, ENORMOUS CROWDS AND ONLINE DELAY

Approved Food, the UK’s online-only retailer that prioritises value for money and convenience for its customers all year round, has blasted Black Friday as a simple PR exercise, coercing consumers into shopping and excess spending on this specific and dedicated day. Approved Food’s reaction comes amid huge consumer and media back lash about the day, which saw both high street and online shoppers miss out due to a number of issues which should have been predicated and better managed by retailers according to the Sheffield based online retailer.

The Approved Food site, which was launched in 2009, and today offers consumers throughout the UK and into Europe between 50-70% off their shopping lists – is now challenging all retailers to re look at their approach to pre-Christmas discounting, which has concatenated into Black Friday over recent years, to ensure that consumers can expect to get the best value for money and convenience they are promised – the very premise of what the day stands to offer.

Director of Approved Foods, Andy Needham comments: “Despite a great deal of hype surrounding Black Friday this year  it was nothing short of a let-down, with tens of thousands of consumers  missing out due to low stocked products and poorly managed e-commerce sites, among other basic issues.

“What Friday’s hysteria and madness has highlighted is that retailers need to take a fresh approach. What do we know is that consumers are more cost savvy than ever before in today’s day and age, but businesses need to ensure that they are appropriately managing their marketing offers to meet that trend, and that they have an intelligent and sustainable business model to do so.

“Retailers should consider reoffering Black Friday deals later this week. Indeed Approved Food is launching White Wednesday this Wednesday 3rd December to ensure that consumers that suffered at the hands of the global online issues that resulted on Black Friday have every chance of snapping up the bargains they were expecting.

“The message is clear: retailers cannot afford to leave customers out in the cold. Whatever their business and whatever their marketing objective behind Black Friday, it’s not working – and that’s bad business for all.”

Approved Food works directly with food manufacturers and suppliers who have excess stock, or stock nearing its best before date. Waste produced throughout the UK can be dramatically reduced due to the formula adopted by Approved Food.
